CONGRATULATIONS MINKA for receiving an endorsement for the Ward 6 Democratic Committee.

Minka is the only challenger to receive their endorsement.

Sierra Club of MA endorses Minka for years of environmental action.  She is the only first time candidate

to receive this endorsement. Click HERE to read the press release.

Minka spoke at a special City Council Forum on Climate Change last month.  As the last person to

speak, she challenged Cambridge to be the first carbon neutral city in the U.S.  She knows that although

we can be a real leader in this area, there is not buy-in amongst all city departments.  Minka challenges the

city to understand why it's important to become carbon neutral not just pass ordinances without monitoring

and management.

The City Council approved a new Dumpster Ordinance initiated by Cambridge Rodent Task Force.

City Manger Healy said it was the single most effective way to deal with the rodent problem in the city. Minka

is one of the key members this Task Force. The ordinance requires that all dumpsters in the city of Cambridge be registered starting January 1, 2010. The goal is to have intact rodent proof dumpsters that properly contain trash

and its run-off.

Minka joins Community Police on rounds in Cambridge. Minka has started her walks with Cambridge Police Officers. She's serious about understanding our city, crime and neighborhood issues. She'll be with a different

officer on their shift- all over Cambridge.  Look for her updates on Facebook and Twitter.

Recycle Alert! You may have noticed that the city manager's office sent out a glossy mailing brochure about city

taxes a couple of weeks ago. Minka noticed it didn't have any information indicating that the brochure was printed

on recycled paper.  We care.

In the interest of ensuring the city is closing the loop on all its purchases, she followed up and found out the paper

did have recycled content, but they forgot to put the logo on the brochure.  Minka's campaign manager pointed out

that the coated or "glossy" stock, while nice looking, never has much recycled content in it - only 10%-30%.  If the

city selected a stock that was not coated, it could be 100% recycled, which is easily available and is recyclable again.  We use only 100% postconsumer paper for our brochures and postcards and they look great!

While some of the city's printing is done on 100% recycled postconsumer paper, not all of it is.  We need to be sure our commitment to the environment is city-wide not just by department.
